Maka is a linguist working on migration and racism. She takes a special interest in how language can be used to reproduce, legitimise, but also challenge racism and discrimination. Her current research is on media and parliamentary discourses of the hostile environment and their impact on minoritised communities in the UK. She uses a mix of methods and subscribes to the principles of Critical Discourse Studies in her research.
