This booklet published in 2004, grapples with how to build community cohesion among populations in England that have so far remained divided. It suggests how communities can be involved in setting up ways of working with one another and with local authorities to improve links and understanding across differences in culture and other dimensions of inequality.
Alison Gilchrist argues that community development principles and processes can provide a solid foundation from which community cohesion strategies can acknowledge and address past and current inequalities. She looks at lessons that can be learned from thriving multi-ethnic communities in major cities across Britain, and provides examples of innovative projects in a number of communities around England.
