Throughout our history, the Runnymede Trust has always advocated for a criminal justice system that is fair and serves everyone irrespective of their ethnicity. But while we aspire to this end, challenges remain. All too often, black and ethnic minority people find themselves subject to racist violence and harassment, as well as disproportionately harsh interventions by the criminal justice system when they transgress. We aim to bring about change by identifying the challenges to racial equality in the criminal justice system, and offering solutions. Criminal justice is not merely a concern for those involved in the legal profession, but a concern for those who wish to see a fair and just society.
