Statement from Professor Dame Donna Kinnair, Chair of Runnymede Trust’s Board of Trustees
Friends and followers of our work will know that after the acquittal of Sergeant Martyn Blake in October 2024 for the murder of Chris Kaba, we published two posts on X which we recognised were not as carefully expressed as they should have been. We decided to delete those posts and publicly clarify the issues that were raised.
We also made a decision to file a report with the Charity Commission to ensure full transparency about the actions we took, both internally and externally, to address the issues that had arisen. The Charity Commission conducted a review and provided advice and guidance to the Trust. We welcome the considered advice they have provided alongside their decision that no further regulatory action was required. We will comply with the guidance issued and take seriously our responsibility to work towards our charitable objectives of achieving racial justice, maintaining the highest standards of communication and accuracy in so doing.
